Qaitbey Castle
Qaitbey castle, or citadel, was built in 1477 to form a considerable defense force against the Ottoman Turks. It was built on the same location of the famous Alexandria lighthouse that was destroyed by a series of earthquakes, the last one was during the 14th century and has completely destroyed the base of the lighthouse. It had been renovated several times in the 20th century and currently houses an aquarium and maritime museum.
