Dolmabahce Palace
This is the newer royal residence which was officially opened in 1856. It was commmissioned by Sultan Abdulmecid. It was supposed to be part of the reformation steps taken by the empire to modernize. The palace itself was built in a Neo-Renaissance style. Instead of being a symbol of modernization, Sultan Abdulmecid spent an entire fortune building the palace that it nearly bankrupted the empire.
